Printable Version FedEx opens new state-of-the-art Asia Pacific hub in Guangzhou, China

FedEx Express has just commenced operations at its new Asia Pacific hub located at the Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou, China. Strategically located in the heart of Guangzhou’s Pearl River Delta, a major international centre of production and trade, the hub links this dynamic economic region to the FedEx global network, facilitating further development of surrounding industries such as high-tech electronics.

The state of the art facility provides a comprehensive intra-Asia network with next-business-day delivery services to 21 major cities in Asia and Australasia and also links these to more than 220 countries and territories worldwide. Among various unique operational advantages the hub is equipped with its own ramp control tower, a first for an international air express cargo company facility in China. This facilitates the management and control of all our aircraft movements (with 136 flights a week scheduled at start-up) and ensures high standards of efficiency and reliability.  It is also equipped with a dedicated customs clearance facility and advanced package and sorting systems capable of processing up to 24,000 packages per hour at the start of operations.

The new FedEx Asia Pacific hub, which will be the centre point of our operations in the region for the next 30 years represents a $150 million capital investment. It also reflects the continuing growth of trade between Europe and Asia and the impact of mutual cooperation on issues such as environmental protection, energy and food security. The EU has been China's largest trade partner for each of the past five years, and our expansion in Guangzhou is a testament to this unique growth trend and the all-round, multi-level and wide-ranging cooperation between the two regions.

The new hub, FedEx’s largest outside the US, not only reinforces our long-term commitment to the Asia Pacific region but also represents a significant enhancement to our total global supply chain and our ability to serve our customers doing business in China and Australasia.
