Description of Fees

Additional Line Items. A fee applies if more than 10 Harmonized Tariff classification lines per entry are required to clear a shipment through customs. The fee applies to the 11th tariff line and to each additional line. A shipment may incur the fee if: 1) it includes more than one commodity; 2) a commodity was manufactured in multiple countries; 3) each Commercial Invoice tendered to customs requires a unique Harmonized Tariff classification; or 4) you request a separate line entry for each item in the shipment.

Entry Copy. We can provide additional copies of the clearance documentation for all nondocument shipments via compact disc (CD) or electronic data interchange (EDI). You'll receive a CD or an EDI transmission once per month with all entries compiled for the previous month. You must be a Customized Processing Account (an account that incurs the Other Special Brokerage Handling fee described below) to utilize this service.

Entry of Goods Pursuant to U.S. Department of Defense Contracts. Goods imported pursuant to a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) contract require special entry procedures and a DOD certificate, which allows the importer to receive duty-free treatment.

Live Entry Processing. Special processing is required for clearing textiles and apparel subject to quota restraints - or any commodity imported within a calendar year for which the U.S. government has assigned a quota - through customs. This fee includes additional handling expenses and payment of the duties and taxes assessed on the shipment.

Other Special Brokerage Handling. If you are preapproved, we can provide a range of special-handling, notification and reporting services, including use of your proprietary systems, part tables and spreadsheets; verification handling; FedEx International Priority® DirectDistribution clearances; special data entry; customized reports; reconciliation; and others. Fees vary depending on the special-handling services you request.

Storage Charge. This charge applies to any shipment that is unclaimed or otherwise left in a FedEx location for more than 48 hours following notice to the recipient or designated broker of the shipment's availability or of additional documentation required for regulatory clearance.

U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Clearance. Shipments that contain commodities regulated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATFE) require additional processing, including an Internal Revenue Service tax assessment and an audit to ensure the shipment has all required ATFE licenses and permits.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Clearance. Special processing is required for commodities that fall under U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service jurisdiction, including products made from nondomesticated animals or from wildlife considered endangered species (including ivory, natural pearls, and shoes and handbags made from certain types of animal skins); and any plant or animal which requires a Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITIES) permit. Such shipments must be cleared through one of the following approved ports (fees may vary by port): Anchorage (ANC), Oakland (OAK), Miami (MIA), Newark (EWR) , Memphis (MEM).

U.S. Food and Drug Administration Clearance. FDA approval is required to import certain commercial goods into the U.S., such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, computer monitors, laser CD players, cosmetics, eyeglasses, and food and food products.

Prior Notice for Food and Food Products. A fee applies if you want FedEx to provide Prior Notice to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food and food products imported into or moving through the U.S. This advance notice is required by the Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002. For import shipments, the Prior Notice fee is in addition to the existing U.S. Food and Drug Administration Clearance fee (described above) for regulated food and food products.
