MAJOR CHANGES TO AUSTRALIA'S EXPORT LEGISLATION

Dear Valued Customer,

Effective October 6th 2004, Australian Customs Service (ASC) will implement new export regulations to enhance security. The new regulations will require additional entry procedures for all shipments at the point of export. These new procedures will be implemented by all air express carriers, including FedEx.

To avoid unnecessary delay to your shipments and to assist in export pre-clearance, it is important to make sure all paperwork is accurate and detailed when shipping packages from Australia. Without the correct paperwork, Australian customs might hold your package for further inspection, causing delays.

When completing a Commercial Invoice you can help to ensure a smoother Customs Clearance by remembering to include the following information:

  1. Your Australian Business Number (ABN).
  2. What is in the package.
  3. What the contents are made of.
  4. What the contents will be used for.
  5. How many are in the package (net quantity).
  6. How much the package is worth, and in what currency. This value should not include the freight and/or insurance costs associated with the goods.
  7. The state (or territory) and country of origin, meaning where the contents were manufactured.
  8. The complete address for both shipper and recipient (PO Boxes are not accepted).

To assist clearance times and reduce potential delays, FedEx recommends that customers complete their air waybill and commercial invoice with FedEx Ship Manager® at fedex.com.

With FedEx Ship Manager® you can prepare the commercial invoice, schedule a courier, and even print shipping labels on your laser printer within minutes.
