Australia & US Free Trade Agreement Important information for senders and recipients
Effective Jan 1, 2005, goods originating from the US became eligible to enter Australia at preferential duty rates under the Australia & United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA).
Effective Oct 2005, importers with eligible shipments will need to provide FedEx the preference rule type that qualifies their imports to claim US preference - namely WO, POM or PS prior to the shipment arrival. The criteria required to meet these rules are as follows:
1. WO = Goods must be wholly obtained or produced entirely from US originating material.
2. POM = Goods must be produced entirely from US and Australian originating raw materials.
3. PS = Goods produced in the US and Australia from non-originating (countries other than the US and Australia) material. These goods must meet product specific rules contained in Customs manual 8c to be eligible to claim preference.
To facilitate customs clearance, please provide in writing confirmation that US preference applies to your imports including the relevant rule type and fax to FedEx Customs Department on (02) 9565 0332 or mail to the following address:

PO Box 656

For more information regarding US preference, please go to customs.gov.au (follow the links to Import/Export, then Rules of Origin and then Rules of Origin - Preference). FedEx will continue to monitor the status of the new provisions and take the necessary steps to keep your informed. We encourage you to regularly visit fedex.com/au for further updates.
