Australia Formal Entry Threshold Increase
Australian Customs Service (ACS) announced an increase to the formal entry (high value) threshold from AU$250 to AU$1,000 as of 12 October. This means imports which are AU$1,000 or lower will be cleared without the imposition of duties and taxes (with the exception of tobacco and alcohol).
The changes are part of Customs Cargo Management Re-engineering (CMR) project, which includes new legislation, new business processes, and a new import reporting system, the Integrated Cargo System (ICS).
This threshold increase means that you will receive packages earlier and which are free of any duties, GST or processing charges. It will also reduce the paperwork required for shipments valued at AU$1,000 or below, with the exception of shipments held for inspection by the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS). You will also enjoy costs savings arising from not having to pay entry processing fees for low-value shipments, in the lead up to Christmas.
Should you require further clarification on any of these matters, please contact your FedEx sales representative or Customer Service on 13 26 10 who will be able to assist you.
