Australian Customs Compliance Audits
The Australian Government has announced that it will be conducting Customs Compliance Audits with the aim of improving the level of voluntary compliance by customers.
All audits follow recognised standards and procedures to ensure consistency and quality. The customs auditors are all accredited and authorised to carry out these audits.
There are six types of customs audits including:
• Desktop audits
• Focused audits
• Comprehensive audits
• National audits
• Benchmark audits
• Bond verification audits
Customs has the authority to audit all client activity relating to customs. This includes imports, exports, licensed warehouses, drawbacks, refunds, industry assistance schemes, permits and taxes on imports.
Customs samples a range of companies in each industry sector to make an assessment of industry risk and compliance. Every customer that deals with customs has the chance of being audited.
