New Packing Guidelines for Freight Shipments Destined to or Transiting the U.S.
Effective May 1, 2011, new packing guidelines will apply to any single piece of freight shipment greater than 68 kilograms (150 pounds) destined to or transiting the U.S.
To minimize the possibility of damage or delay to your shipment, please follow these guidelines:
- Band any single piece of freight shipment greater than 68 kilograms (150 pounds) on all sides with heavy-duty metal or break-resistant banding. This includes crates and skidded cargo.
- If your freight (with any single piece greater than 68 kilograms/150 pounds) is contained within a hardened container (plywood, metal) and is not banded, an exterior lock or clamp must be used (glue, nails and screws are not sufficient).
Freight shipment not received as described above may be opened and inspected by FedEx prior to loading on the aircraft, resulting in increased potential for delays or damage. Your assistance in banding or placing an exterior lock or clamp on hardened containers upon tendering to FedEx is greatly appreciated.
