FedEx Ship Manager™ Software Critical Update
This latest software update is to protect your shipment data from a potential security attack due to POODLE (Padding Oracle On Downgraded Legacy Encryption) vulnerability
POODLE is an industry-wide vulnerability affecting every piece of software that communicates using SSL 3.0 protocol and is not specific to FedEx software. For more details, please read here.
For best security protection, if you are using below versions of FedEx Ship Manager Software, please follow the below steps to upgrade your software as soon as possible.
To check your software version, click “Help” on the top right hand corner of your shipping screen, then “About”.
Important! If your FedEx Ship Manager Software is not upgraded by July 2016, you will run the risk of generating invalid air waybills which may lead to shipment delays.
Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 customers with Service Pack 2 (or below)
To strengthen your security protection, FedEx will update its security certificates on January 30, 2016 to support SHA-2 encryption. If you are still using the below Windows versions, before upgrading your FedEx Ship Manager Software, you must first upgrade to the Windows service packs detailed below by January 30, 2016 otherwise, you will be at risk to malicious hackers and lose important software functions such as Tracking, Electronic Trade Document (ETD) and Pickup.
Windows XP customers with Service Pack 2 (or below):
- Download and install Windows Service Pack 3
- Download through Windows Updates from the desktop or from the Microsoft Download Center via the Microsoft website.
Windows Server 2003 customers with Service Pack 2 (or below):
- Download and install Windows hotfix KB 968730
After you have finished the above steps, please proceed to upgrade your FedEx Ship Manager Software by July 30, 2016.
Version 6 or 7 (GSMW0659, GSMW0758)
Click here to download and install the upgrade patch.
If your version number does not match with the above, please follow the procedures of Version 5 or below to upgrade.
Do I have to install the software upgrade?
Yes. This is a critical update that will protect your shipment data from security attack. Without the upgrade, you will lose connection to the FedEx system by July 2016 and run the risk of generating invalid air waybills which may lead to shipment delays. Also, you will no longer be able to use some of the functions in the application such as rate quote.
How long does the software upgrade take?
For FedEx Ship Manager Software Version 6 and 7, the software patch installation will take about 1 to 2 minutes to complete.
For FedEx Ship Manager Software Version 5 or below, the new version download will take about 14 minutes*. Installation time may vary and depend on your current software version number, size of your shipment database and your computer speed.
*Assuming an Internet connection speed of 2Mbps (E1, ISDN-32)
How will I know if I have successfully installed the upgrade?
After you have installed the upgrade, you can launch FedEx Ship Manager Software and check your version by clicking “Help” and then “About” on your shipping screen. If your version is any one of the below, you have upgraded successfully.
