More than 160 customers were able to join the 50,000 fans in the Friends Stadium as special guests of FedEx to witness Manchester United FC bring their long 64 match season to a glittering end by clinching the UEFA Europa League Trophy, beating AFC Ajax 2-0 on 24th May.
The evening’s football entertainment followed a FedEx customer event, where guests were given a tour of Stockholm’s famous waterways on a specially adapted boat providing a unique conference setting. During the trip, customers got to learn more about how our integration with TNT is helping taking businesses further, faster.
FedEx was also present across the city, from our branding welcoming fans and travelers to Stockholm’s Arlanda airport, to our branding within the stadium providing a backdrop to the action on the pitch.
We were also a major presence in the official UEFA Fan Zone where fans and other visitors were able to soak-up the pre-Final atmosphere in the Kings Garden, one of Stockholm’s most famous squares. Visitors to the FedEx stand were able to win prizes in our FedEx Performance Zone Challenge, including match tickets to next year’s UEFA Europa League Final in Lyon, France.
The official UEFA Europa League Trophy was on display giving visitors the chance to snap a selfie with the iconic silverware. The Trophy was then taken by FedEx to the stadium for the Final, a special honour bestowed upon FedEx courier Demir Fetahovic, the winner of our Swedish courier competition.
This wasn’t the only special honour delivered by FedEx for the Final. Accompanying the stars as they walked out onto pitch during the opening ceremony were 22 children nominated by local Stockholm charities. Working with the UEFA Foundation for Children and Swedish sports club, Djurgården Fotboll, this once in a lifetime opportunity was donated by FedEx to underprivileged children from the area.
FedEx also enabled one lucky winner of our social media competition to get onto the pitch and play in UEFA’s Stockholm Showdown Fans Final. Kevin Ingham, from Manchester, UK, and his guest, took part in a specially arranged football match in the Friends Arena the day following the UEFA Europa League Final. The teams were made up of guests from the UEFA Europa League sponsors and also included two FedEx employees as a special reward, while former Sweden internationals, Henrik Larsson and Patrik Andersson took charge of each side. The players received a truly professional experience, sharing the same changing rooms as the professionals from AFC Ajax and Manchester United FC.
The 2016/17 season really provided some exciting moments for FedEx customers, and with the new season starting up again in September, there will be lots to look forward to, so keep up-to-date with the latest news and opportunities on fedex.com/uel
