Printable Version FedEx works with international aid agencies to provide relief Myanmar and China

Following the recent devastating natural disasters in Myanmar and China FedEx is providing cash and in-kind services in support of relief programmes organised by international aid agencies and NGOs.

A Heart to Heart International charter flight funded by FedEx delivered 150-250 pallets of urgently required medical supplies to Chengdu, where Heart to Heart are working closely with the China Red Cross Society in support of the local relief effort.  A cash donation of approximately $286,000 made through the Red Cross will also aid the relief work of the China Red Cross Society.

FedEx is supporting relief aid in Myanmar by providing complimentary transportation services required by Water Missions International to deliver forty large water systems via Bangkok.  Each of the units will provide more than 10,000 gallons of purified water each day and will support the needs of a community of up to 3,000 people.

FedEx has also made an immediate cash donation of $50,000 for use by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army in support of their initial relief efforts in Myanmar and China.

FedEx has a long established policy of supporting international emergency relief programmes, and in recent months has provided help in Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Bangladesh, California and Tennessee.  For over ten years FedEx has concentrated on supporting the Red Cross, providing them with over $7.5m of cash and in-kind services.  FedEx is currently committed to providing them with a further $1.2m cash and in-kind services each year over five years through 2012.

Other FedEx donations include $150,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Management Unit network (three regional disaster relief warehouses ready to provide emergency supplies for up to 5,000 families anywhere in the world) and eleven disaster response units, representing $1m in cash grants to the Salvation Army for use in worldwide disaster preparedness initiatives.
