Printable Version FedEx and Iveco embrace new low-emission technology
FedEx Express and Iveco have been working together over the past two years on a new generation of lightweight commercial vehicles, which utilise state of the art technology to significantly lower fuel consumption and minimise harmful CO2 emissions. Following extensive research and development a fleet of ten diesel-electric hybrid vans are shortly to undergo road tests in Milan and Turin, Italy and those FedEx couriers who have already received pre-test driver training are unanimous in their enthusiasm for the performance, manoeuvrability, functionality and ease of use of the new vehicles. In 2000, working with the Environmental Defense Fund, FedEx developed the first commercially available hybrid truck. Today we operate the largest commercial hybrid fleet in the Express industry, comprising 170 vehicles. The introduction of the new Iveco hybrid continues our policy of using clean technology vehicles wherever possible as well as actively supporting the commercial development of fuel- and cost-efficient technologies for the industry.
Iveco have long been a recognised leader in the design and manufacture of commercial vehicles of all types and have a strong and successful track record in producing vans, trucks and lorries which not only meet specific technical and business needs but are also environmentally friendly. Their new hybrid successfully marries the autonomy and fuel efficiency of a standard diesel to the zero-emission levels of an electric engine.
