FedEx Express Answers Batam's Burgeoning Demand for

New "U.S. One" service offers greater connectivity and
increases island's trade mobility

JAKARTA, September 26, 2003 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, today announced a service enhancement that enables FedEx customers operating on Batam Island to send deliveries to U.S. destinations overnight.

"The nascent recovery of industrial activity in the United States has led many businesses on Batam to turn to FedEx as the leader in fast and reliable shipments to the U.S.," said Ramesh Kumar Singam, FedEx Express Managing Director for Singapore and Indonesia. "With the island's importance as a free-trade zone growing, speed of delivery has become a critical factor for companies located there," he continued.

The U.S. One service starts with latest pickup at 9:30 AM for departure from Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam at 12 noon. Shipments are transferred to FedEx's U.S. One flight, which transits in Kansai International Airport (Osaka, Japan) before arriving at FedEx's hub in Memphis, Tennessee (USA) at midnight local time on the same day. Domestic delivery can then be completed the next day. Prior to U.S. One service, shipments from Batam to the United States could take more than three days. The U.S. One service is available six days a week, flying daily from Monday to Saturday.

"FedEx's U.S. One service enables our customers to conduct global commerce in real time, an industry that FedEx invented through its leadership in fast and reliable air express service," said Mr. Singam.

As an industrial location bequeathed with strategic geographical position, Batam Island has witnessed tremendous growth in high-value-added industry that benefits from guaranteed, on-time delivery of its products. FedEx customers in Batam include electronics and semiconductor manufacturers.
