| Sight is a precious gift. FedEx is proud to help ORBIS International in their mission to eliminate avoidable blindness across the globe. The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital is the world's only fully equipped, state-of-the-art eye surgery and teaching facility housed inside a DC-10 aircraft. A volunteer international medical team travels with this aircraft across the globe to perform eye surgeries and deliver ophthalmic training programs to physicians in developing countries. FedEx supports ORBIS by providing aviation-related services to ensure that ORBIS continues its global missions. The commitment includes a FedEx Express aircraft maintenance technician who travels with the flying eye hospital, training for volunteer pilots and the shipment of urgently needed medical supplies to program sites all over the world at no charge to ORBIS. FedEx Express pilots also volunteer their time to fly the ORBIS DC-10 on many of its global medical missions. Since 1982, ORBIS has carried out more than 500 sight-saving programs in over 80 countries and has helped to train more than 154,000 doctors and other eye care professionals. It is estimated that as many as 27.5 million people have had their sight restored or preserved as a result of ORBIS work.
