FedEx helps make Christmas Wish a reality
Dear FedEx,
I have just seen the fact that FedEx has donated almost 400 [boxes of] toys to the ChumCity Christmas Wish [in Toronto]. I find this to be a very generous act of your company, especially in harder times like these. I personally use couriers about twice a week, and from now on will strictly use FedEx, and request other people who are sending me items to use your company as well.
I feel that this is the least I can do for your company. It is refreshing to see big business give back to the local community.
Thank you,
Toronto customer

A special shipment to Ground Zero
Dear Expressly Canadian,
During a very difficult time, FedEx employees and internal customers came together to assist a customer providing aid to those down at Ground Zero in New York.
With the dramatic slowdown due to grounded aircraft, and long wait times at the border, it appeared that this freight would be very delayed in getting to Ground Zero; a delay that could impact the rescue effort.
I brainstormed with YYZ ramp agent, Paul Fitzpatrick and ramp handler, Greg Tetley, on how we could get this freight there as quickly as possible. We contacted the U.S. Consulate, Red Cross, Parliament Hill, Canada Customs, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and finally, the U.S. Customs at the Peace Bridge.
Arrangements were made for me to pass through customs quickly with the shipment, and pass it off to someone from BUFA station, who would then forward it to the site.
I left Vista at 2:30 with the 14 boxes, weighing 429 lbs. and headed for the Peace Bridge. At Thompson Road, OPP police escorted me to the front of the line where a lane was opened specifically for this freight. The Peace Bridge Authority escorted me across where the U.S. customs also opened a lane. Paperwork was checked, and we were waved ahead; no duties or taxes were charged.
On Friday, September 14, I found out about a special shipment intended for Ground Zero. The shipment contained booties for the dogs searching the rubble, and was donated by Muttlucks in Toronto. Medford senior service agent, Beverly Stewart, arranged the shipment and even offered to pay the shipping fees.
Ron Rienas, from the Peace Bridge Authority, went above and beyond with his crew by escorting me to meet the courier from BUFA.
We transferred the freight and I gave my condolences within five minutes.Muttlucks was amazed at the treatment the freight received.
In a time of great sorrow, it was great to see us all come together to get the job done.
Sincerely,
Tracey Ruiz

Team uses FedEx box as lucky charm, wins championships
A Vancouver junior water polo team chose an unusual good-luck charm to accompany them to the championships this summer-a large FedEx® Box.
The Coquitlam Sharks' Junior Water Polo team is a co-ed team for kids between 10 and 13 years old.
The team was in desperate need of new water polo caps, and decided to use the FedEx Box as their good-luck charm after their new team caps arrived by FedEx the day before a big tournament.
From then on, the team members carried the box to each match, and rubbed or kissed it for good luck.
The team would even shout "FedEx" before and during a match."Their 'FedEx' chant was heard many times during the two-day provincial tournament," said Shelley Begg, whose daughter is on the Coquitlam Shark's team.
"A number of parents said that if they need to use a courier, FedEx was definitely the name that would come to mind," she said.
Tattered and soggy as it became, the box accompanied the team to victory as they took home the gold medal at the provincial championships.
