Have a customer who requires a direct signature upon delivery? Or maybe your recipient would like for their neighbour to be able to sign for the package. Whatever the case, FedEx Delivery Signature Options can offer you and your customers more control and extra peace of mind.

With FedEx® Delivery Signature Options you can designate specific signature options when you ship domestically or internationally with FedEx Express and FedEx Ground, giving you the flexibility to cater to each customers’ unique needs. You can choose from four different signature options.*

  • No signature required (NSR)

FedEx® may release the package without anyone present. This option may not be available for all shipments or to all destinations. See the FedEx Service Guide for more details.*

  • Indirect signature required (ISR)

Indirect signature required (ISR)

FedEx® may release the package in any of the three ways: Obtaining a signature from someone at the delivery address; acquiring a signature from a neighbour, building manager, or other person at a neighbouring address; where available, gaining authorization from the recipient to release the package without anyone present.*

  • Direct signature required (DSR)

Direct signature required (DSR)

Someone at the recipient’s address may sign for the delivery. If no one is at the address, FedEx may reattempt the delivery.*

  • Adult signature required (ASR)

Adult signature required (ASR)

FedEx will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address who is at least the age of majority in the destination country. Government-issued photo identification or other identification customarily accepted by local authorities is required. For Canadian deliveries, the recipient must be 19 years of age and present government issued photo identification.*

No, not all options are available for all shipments or to all destinations. When using FedEx Ship Manager™, signature options will only appear when available for that destination.

When using FedEx Ship Manager™, signature options can be selected under “Special Services." Please note these will only appear with a destination that is enabled for those services.

How do I select signature options on a FedEx manual air waybill?

Under “Special Handling and Delivery Signature Options" you can select "Direct Signature" or "Indirect Signature” options. Please note that "Adult Signature Required" and "No Signature Required" are not available on manual air waybills.

What happens when I do not select a signature option?

If signature option is not selected, standard operating procedures will apply and you will not be charged for a signature option. These procedures may include releasing a shipment without obtaining a signature. If you require a signature for a shipment, please select an appropriate Delivery Signature Option.

Can I make changes to the Signature option once the package has been tendered to FedEx?

No, Signature options cannot be added, removed or changed once FedEx has taken possession of the package.

What should I do if I’m currently enrolled in the FedEx Express Signature Release Program?

Effective October 17, 2016, the FedEx Express Signature Release program will be retired. If you are currently enrolled in this program you should remove your FedEx Express Signature Release sticker from your mailbox (or the location you’ve chosen to display it) by October 17, 2016.
