New services provide customers faster links to FedEx's Asia network
KUCHING, January 24, 2000 - Federal Express Corp., (FedEx), the
world's largest express transportation company, today launched new
services in Kuching, Sarawak through its appointed agent. This new
service is in response to increased demand for inbound and outbound
air express services in the rapidly industrializing state.
According to a recent report, State Industrial Development Minister
Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg was quoted as saying "a direct service
was important to enable Sarawak to speedily send its high-tech products
to Japan and the US".
Mr Luiz Tung, Managing Director of FedEx Malaysia said, "the new
service offers FedEx immediate access to Kuching's business community
where FedEx has experienced significant growth in demand for services.
The increase in the number of high-tech companies as a result of
the new Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone in Kuching, has led to strong
demand for time-definite air express services, both in and out of
the region.
Occupying an area of 1760 square feet, the station features a sorting
and distribution center with a FedEx World Service Center (WSC)
for walk-in customers. It will also provide ease of access for customers
who will be able to drop-off their shipments.
"There is a real need for air express services here and we are
very excited about this service in Kuching. It will allow us to
increase our speed and reliability in the delivery of shipments
to and from the region, allowing customers overnight delivery to
any of FedEx's 17 cities in Asia and two day service to the United
States. Customers will be able to enjoy FedEx's excellent service
by well trained staff whose goal is to provide total customer satisfaction."
said Mr. Tung.
