Press Releases
HONG KONG, February 20, 2001 - Federal Express Corp. (FedEx), the
world's largest express transportation company, and Heart to Heart
International, an US-based medical relief organisation, have a special
gift for thousands of people in Vietnam this year. Supporting the
"Physicians with Heart" project, approximately 25 tons of pharmaceuticals
and relief supplies will be delivered from FedEx's Asia Pacific
hub in Subic Bay to recipient hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh
City from February 20th to 26th.
"We are proud to be able to work on this "Physicians with Heart"
project with an organisation whose work has made a significant impact
on many people in Southeast Asia", said David L. Cunningham Jr.,
President for FedEx in Asia Pacific. "This humanitarian effort is
part of our commitment to Asia and, in this case, to the Vietnamese
people and the community we serve. There are many employees who
have contributed generously to this mission, and we hope that our
combined efforts will help make a difference in the lives of the
Vietnam people."
In fact, local FedEx staff across Asia are showing their support
by donating much-needed educational supplies and computers to the
FedEx Junior High School in Chu Lai - Quang Nam. The school was
constructed by FedEx and opened in January 2000. There are now 625
children aged six to nine years attending the school.
FedEx has a proud history in servicing Vietnam. The company was
the first to land a plane on Vietnamese soil after the end of the
Vietnam war, and made history in 1995 when it donated a wide-body
MD-11 aircraft for "Heart-to-Heart's" first airlift to Vietnam.
A week ago, the company became the first US carrier to begin services
connecting Ho Chi Minh City to its Asia Pacific Hub in Subic Bay,
the Philippines, through an arrangement with Vietnam Air Services
Company (VASCO) and Corporate Air.
FedEx has also worked with "Heart-to-Heart" on numerous occasions,
providing transportation for projects in India, China, Honduras
and many other world areas in need of such assistance.
FedEx Express, a $15 billion subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects
areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in
24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back
guarantee*. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure
make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing
fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.3
million items to 210 countries each working day. FedEx employs approximately
149,000 employees and has more than 46,000 drop-off locations, 663
aircraft and 49,000 vehicles in its integrated global network.
