BANGKOK, June 1, 2001 - Federal Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, is introducing as of June 1st a new "Dry Ice Shipment Service" for its customers in Bangkok. FedEx is the first and only express courier in Thailand to propose this unique service, thanks to the fact that the company operates its own fleet of aircraft and manages its own flights. Other commercial airlines usually do not allow the transportation of dry ice.
Rhicke Jennings, Managing Director, FedEx Thailand, says the new Dry Ice Service primarily targets customers in the agro-food and pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, laboratories, research companies and universities.
"The new FedEx Dry Ice Service offers the same benefits as FedEx's International Priority Service, which means that Dry Ice packages from Thailand can be delivered overnight to most major Asian cities - where Dry Ice shipments are allowed - and within two business days to most of North America with a money-back guarantee*,"Mr Jennings said.
Customers will benefit from this new service without extra charges. Shipments marked with the "Dry Ice" label will be picked up by regular FedEx couriers, preferably in the afternoon to reduce the sublimation time.
"We are always looking for innovations to provide the best possible service to our customers," Mr. Jennings said.
"The Dry Ice Shipment Service is part of our company's efforts to expand our customer base in new areas where this kind of special handling is required, such as hospitals, laboratories and universities.
"FedEx has always led the way in air-express transportation, through commitment, technology and innovation, and our new Dry Ice Service is no exception," he added.
FedEx Express, a $15 billion subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door, customs-cleared service and a money-back guarantee. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.3 million items to 211 countries each working day. FedEx employs approximately 149,000 employees and has more than 46,000 drop-off locations, 663 aircraft and 49,000 vehicles in its integrated global network.
