Press Releases
FedEx to Reciprocate with Discount Delivery Services
TAIPEI, June 13, 2000 -- FedEx Express (FedEx), a company
committed to information technology development and the world's
largest transportation company, has been designated the official
express courier service provider for the World Congress on
Information Technology (WCIT). The Republic of China Information
Software Association (ROCISA), the organizer, has decided
to do FedEx this honor. As a tribute to this biannual global
event, FedEx will offer fast, reliable and time-definite
international courier services, at a 35% discount, to the
more than 1,600 participating IT industry celebrities and
dignitaries from more than 50 countries and regions. The
company will also share its IT achievements with participants
by staging a display on supply chain management, global logistics
and e-commerce solutions on the sidelines of the convention.
Never before was WCIT serviced by international express courier
service providers. However, in view of a growing demand for
time-definite delivery of goods and services following the
advent of the Internet and in an attempt to present Taiwan
in a more favorable light, ROCISA and FedEx reached a consensus,
agreeing to include international express courier services
in the WCIT exhibition. They concluded that such on-time
delivery services are so important that they can make or
break business deals. In addition, they also agreed that
FedEx could amply demonstrate the pivotal role played by
international courier service providers by offering cost
effective services to participants during the event.
David Cunningham, president for FedEx's Asia Pacific Division,
Rajesh Subramaniam, FedEx's vice president for marketing,
communications, electronic commerce, and customer services,
and Eddy Chan, the company's regional vice president for
China and Mid-Pacific, will make a special trip to Taiwan
to participate in the upcoming WCIT and exchange experiences
with IT industry heavyweights regarding supply chain management,
global logistics management and e-commerce.
Jimmy Chen, FedEx's managing director for Taiwan, pointed
out: " Since 1985, long before widespread commercial use
of the Internet, FedEx has been carrying out information
exchanges with its clients through extensive networking.
This is just one example of FedEx's success in IT development.
I believe that the company's 6000-strong IT professionals
will soon enjoy further success in e-commerce and supply
chain management as a result of its success in global logistics
services implementation.
"While promising time-definite, high-quality international
services to its clientele, FedEX will make further inroads
into the domain of logistics by offering its clients value-added
services in supply chain management, global logistics and
e-commerce. Through the combined force of its unparalleled
express transportation, warehousing and IT networks, FedEx
will help make Taiwan more competitive internationally."
Aside from offering express courier services, FedEx will
also participate in the accompanying exhibition on the third
floor of the Taipei International Conference Center (TICC),
displaying its unique supply chain solutions. Furthermore,
it will arrange presentations on its Express Distribution
Center, e-commerce solutions, International Priority DirectDistribution
and other services aimed at helping its clients enhance their
competitiveness by reducing costs and expediting marketing
processes.
During the June 11-14 WCIT and accompanying activities, FedEx,
mindful of the participants' full schedules, will set up
a service counter at the Taipei International Conference
Center. Additional service centers will also be set up at
the Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Grand Hyatt, the Grand Hotel,
Howard Plaza Hotel, and the Agora Gardens. Service hours
are from 7:30 a.m. untill 7:30 p.m. In addition to delivery
services, FedEx personnel managing the counters will provide
packaging and tracking services. Participants in the convention
are entitled to a 35% discount and will be continually updated
on the whereabouts of the packages they have entrusted to
us.
Taiwan IT industrialists participating in the event and representatives
from the local and foreign media also will be offered the
same 35% discount. In addition, FedEx will offer a complimentary
delivery service for 700 packages, each weighing no more
than 10 kilograms, thus saving the participating IT heavyweights
the trouble of having to lug their own baggage.
