Press Releases
TOKYO, August 5, 1999 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the
world's largest express transportation company, announced today
that it will launch two new Internet-based services in Japan, Virtual
Order Plus (VO+), the Internet-based storefront with on-line ordering
and payment system, and Global Inventory Visibility System (GIVS),
the company's on-line worldwide inventory management system. These
services enable FedEx customers to enhance the electronic commerce
(EC) as well as supply chain management capabilities.
VO+ enables a retailer to easily set up an attractive electronic
storefront and provide its customers with a display of its goods,
special deals and promotions. Customers can make their selection,
and make payments using a variety of payment mechanisms, such as
credit cards, via a secure link. In addition, VO+ provides the retailer
with the ability to more efficiently create airway bills and commercial
invoices, necessary documents when FedEx picks, packs and delivers
purchased goods to the customers.
GIVS allows companies who use FedEx's warehouse logistics services
to cost-effectively yet efficiently access at a single location
various updated information on inventory stocks located virtually
anywhere in the world. The companies can also place an order on-line
to ship stocked quantity from a warehouse to the purchaser.
The two services can be used either independently or by being combined.
When combined, FedEx customers can manage their salesfront by VO+,
while using GIVS as the back-office inventory management function.
"A growing number of companies are seeking better ways to introduce
effective EC as well as supply chain management," said Rajesh Subramaniam,
Vice President, Electronic Commerce and Customer Services (ECCS),
FedEx Asia Pacific. "We believe that these new services, which are
fully supported by our two international networks, transportation
and information, will provide FedEx's customers and prospects with
unique, value-added solutions to their logistics challenges."
These new service introductions strengthen the portfolio of cutting
edge solutions that FedEx provides to customers in the area of e-commerce
and logistics.
