FedEx delivers the goods through mail boxes exchange

Singapore, September 2, 1999 -- Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) is teaming up with Mail Boxes Exchange Pte Ltd to deliver a "one-stop-shop" of express transportation services to Singapore's small to medium-sized businesses.

FedEx today announced a strategic alliance with Mail Boxes Exchange to gradually extend the network of FedEx Authorized Ship Centers (FASC), at Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) retail outlets across Singapore. Currently, there are two MBE outlets in Singapore, with plans to rapidly expand.

Releasing details of the agreement, FedEx's Regional Vice President, South Pacific, David Cunningham, and Jack Chua, President of the Hersing Group which co-owns MBE with Singapore Post, said the partnership was designed to provide customers with greater convenience and accessibility to shipping services.

Commenting on the alliance, Mr. Cunningham said: "We are just beginning. What we hope to do as a key component of our retail strategy is offer a full suite of FedEx services, at convenient locations across Singapore for small companies, individual customers and those who use shipping services on an ad-hoc basis. Our alliance with MBE enables us to provide fast, reliable and value-added express services to the small to medium-sized businesses in addition to the retail market."

Mr Chua said: "The FedEx Authorized Ship Center within MBE will provide our customers with the added convenience of a one-stop international express shipping center. We are very pleased we can offer customers an expanded range of business services through establishing a strategic partnership with the world's largest express transportation company."

Instead of customers calling a FedEx toll-free number to arrange for a courier to pick up a shipment, they can now walk into an MBE outlet to co-ordinate their express delivery requirements. The FedEx Authorized Ship Center at MBE offers:

  • Discounts - Shippers who have an account with FedEx, will receive a discount of between S$6 to S$10 per shipment when they drop-off at an MBE location.*
  • Easy-Access Shipping Documents: As FedEx supplies and shipping documents are available at the MBE outlets, customers only need to bring in their shipments.
  • Convenience: MBE staff can assist with many other services such as packaging. Non-FedEx account holders, small businesses and individual customers who ship on an ad-hoc basis can enjoy greater access by shipping at any MBE outlet.
