Press Releases
Singapore, September 23, 1999 -- National Computer Systems Pte
Ltd (NCS) has forged an alliance with Federal Express Corp (FedEx),
the world's largest express company, to focus on the logistics and
transportation issues faced by e-commerce players.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NCS and FedEx is
reflective of the growing importance of the effective delivery of
goods purchased on-line, which is becoming the next service challenge
for e-businesses.
FedEx - an early adopter of the Internet, arms NCS with supply
chain management and logistics expertise which can be passed on
to many of the latter's business merchants who trade worldwide.
In return, NCS - which already has a prominent profile in the fast-growing
electronic commerce market - will provide FedEx its technological
expertise, infrastructure and business networks. NCS observes a
burgeoning global e-commerce market in which many businesses are
eagerly participating in. This partnership addresses this phenomena
in providing e-commerce services worldwide from any point in the
world.
As preferred partners, NCS and FedEx expect to take advantage of
each other's strengths with an aim to accelerate penetration into
key customer segments comprising multi-national companies as well
as small and medium-sized businesses. "With all the hype surrounding
the Internet, little attention has been paid to the fulfillment
side of e-commerce. This agreement with NCS recognizes that seamless
and reliable delivery is one of the critical drivers of consumer
satisfaction," said Mr. Rajesh Subramaniam, Vice President for FedEx's
Electronic Commerce and Customer Service division.
Commenting on the alliance, Mr. Lee Kwok Cheong, Chief Executive
Officer, NCS, said: "With this alliance, we are integrating order-tracking
and parcel-tracking. This is the edge NCS seeks in complementing
our extensive suite of e-commerce services. In this instance, we
now possess the competitive advantage to link businesses on a large
scale through e-commerce. Geographical barriers for businesses are
broken down."
Mr Lee also added that this partnership would allow service providers
like NCS to tackle the challenges in cyberspace while leveraging
on FedEx's vast transportation, logistics and information infrastructure.
Mr. Subramaniam said that FedEx was developing a web of alliances
and partnerships with merchants, Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
and e-commerce software developers in a strategic effort to cement
its position as a leading e-commerce player. "Electronic commerce
is the backbone of the future business order and we certainly view
this alliance as an opportunity to expand our service offerings."
