FedEx and Intershop to launch direct electronic shipment interface for Asia Pacific region

A boon to merchants for greater convenience and efficiency in managing shipments

HONG KONG, November 3, 1999 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest air express transportation company, today announced the launch of an innovative electronic shipment interface together with its strategic partner Intershop Communication. The enhancement comes in the form of a software "cartridge" which provides unparalleled convenience and efficiency in managing shipments for the increasing E-business population.

With the cartridge serving as an interface between the electronic storefront provided by Intershop and the automated shipping systems of FedEx, merchants will be able to enjoy one-stop, seamless shipping solutions at the web catalog by just a click-- from sending the order, producing bar-coded air waybills and commercial invoice for export, to finally checking shipment status.

"This service enhancement brings to shippers the real convenience offered by E-commerce, and demonstrates how FedEx capitalizes on its advanced technology network, which intertwines with its most comprehensive air and ground network, to add value to our customers' businesses," Linda Brigance, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, FedEx Asia Pacific said.

"We are happy that we and our partner Intershop share the same vision in electronic business development, and are proud to forge ahead in the e-commerce arena with this world-leading provider of electronic commerce software provider," added Brigance.

"We see that in many countries efficient logistics is a serious bottleneck blocking the growth of global e-commerce," said Petra Vorsteher, vice president of business development and strategic alliances for Intershop. "With the FedEx cartridge built for Intershop 4 hosting/merchant product line, Commerce Service Providers and their hosted sellers/merchants can benefit from this plug-and-play solution."
