Press Releases
Hong Kong, February 26, 1997 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) today unveiled its Asia Pacific (APAC) homepage, a domain on the Internet where customers and interested users can gain access to up-to-date news and information on the 31 markets FedEx serves in Asia.
The APAC homepage is accessible through the FedEx web site (www.FedEx.com) and
has information segmented according to the Asian countries served directly and
indirectly by the company.
"This is the most comprehensive site for the express transportation industry in this region. Since the roll-out of our web site in the States in late 1994, we have achieved enormous success in communicating electronically with our customers and net users. We are now bringing this technology to Asia which, I believe, provides exceptional benefits to interested users," said Michael Ducker, FedEx senior vice president for Asia Pacific.
"By talking with our customers in Asia, we have learned a lot about their preferences and have incorporated features that will be highly useful, including country-specific information on shipping tools, interactive services, tracking software, and more." Information is available in Japanese, and there are plans to develop pages in other Asian languages as well, Ducker added.
David Ross, FedEx managing director for Hong Kong, believes the multifunction use with which the homepage has been designed provides incomparable benefits to Net surfers. "Customers can utlize the Services Online function to track a shipment, order FedEx packaging suppliers, apply for a corporate account, download free tracking software, and view local contact information in dozens of countries," Ross said.
One feature, "Info Central", enables the user to look up interesting FedEx Facts as well as Frequently Asked Questions and Answers. In addition, details on FedEx's history in Asia, logistics services, and ISO 9000 compliance are also on hand under this site.
"Tools For Shipping" is a powerful tool for those customers wishing to learn more about the shipping process. By accessing the "Shipping Information" function, users can retrieve specific information about shipping to or from any country served by FedEx. By selecting the destination country with a mouse or pointer, details including transit times, acceptable package weights and other service options are readily available.
Another innovative function under this site is instructions on How to Fill Out on Airway Bill and a Commercial Invoice. The samples guide customers through the process of preparing the document correctly.
Finally, users are welcome to send comments and questions to the FedEx web master via e-mail at apacmaster@fedex.com.
