FedEx appointed "Official Air Carrier" for the World Summit on Small Business in Singapore
SINGAPORE, March 1, 2000 - Federal Express Corp. (FedEx), the world's
largest express transportation company, has been appointed the 'official
air express carrier' for the World Summit on Small Business. Hosted
by the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME), the Summit
takes place from March 29 to 31, 2000, at the Singapore International
Convention and Exhibition Centre (SICEC).
"Sponsoring the World Summit on Small Business was a natural choice
for us. With the advent of the Internet and e-commerce, small companies
can now compete with large businesses on a more level playing field.
FedEx is well positioned to be a one-stop solutions provider for
these small and medium enterprises. With our combined air, ground
and transportation network, we are able to help SMEs compete with
the large multi-nationals by enabling them greater access to global
markets and making it easier for them to transform themselves into
e-businesses," said Malcolm Sullivan, Managing Director for FedEx
Marketing, South Pacific. Mr. Sullivan will be delivering a keynote
address on "E-Commerce for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises" at
the Summit on March 30th.
As part of its marketing initiative to become the carrier of choice
for small customers, particularly in Singapore, FedEx also launched
the Personal Shipper Account Program (PSA) today. Individuals and
small customers looking for greater convenience and flexibility
in their international express shipments can now ship their documents
and packages from home to any of the 210 countries FedEx serves
and charge theses shipments to their Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/JCB and
Diners Club cards.
Explaining the program, Mr. Sullivan said, "This value-added service
is another option that we are offering our customers. Last September,
we extended our network of FedEx Authorized Ship Centers into Mail
Boxes Etc (MBE) retail outlets, located in Suntec City and Nee Soon.
This was a move to make our services more accessible to small companies
and individual customers. The PSA program that we are launching
today moves us one step further in developing a comprehensive program
for SMEs."
