FedEx Chairman is Named Chairman of the United States - China Business Council

HONG KONG, June 26, 2000 - Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president, and CEO of Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, has been elected Chairman of the US-China Business Council, the principal organization of American companies engaged in trade and investment with the People's Republic of China.

The Council's Board of Directors elected Mr. Smith to replace Michael R. Bonsignore, chairman and chief executive officer of Honeywell, who has completed his term of service.

"We are extremely pleased that Mr. Smith will serve as Chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council. This further demonstrates the strong commitment of FedEx to China," said David Cunningham, President of Asia Pacific division. "We currently fly 10 frequencies a week connecting China to 30 economies in Asia as well as the U.S. We also serve a total of 144 Chinese cities throughout the country and plan to add another 100 cities within the next five years. Working together with our joint venture partner, we are in a key position to vigorously promote the economic growth and trade of China," added Cunningham.

Other officers elected for the coming year include Roger G. Ackerman, chairman and CEO of Corning Incorporated, as Vice Chairman; Ambassador Carla A. Hills, chairman and CEO of Hills and Company and former United States Trade Representative, as Vice Chairman; Vaughn A. Koshkarian, vice president of Ford Motor Company and president of Ford Asia Pacific Operations, as Secretary- Treasurer; Larry L. Simms, partner, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, LLP, as Counsel; and Robert A. Kapp as President.

FedEx currently serves more than 30 countries and territories in the Asia Pacific market with over 5,000 employees. The company provides the most extensive trans-Pacific airlift of any major competitor. Operating its own wide-bodied MD-11, DC-10 and A310 aircraft, FedEx offers over 260 flights per week to Bangkok, Beijing, Cebu, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Osaka, Penang, Seoul, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, Subic Bay, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo, as well as destinations in the United States.
