FedEx becomes first air express company to join new electronic trading community
HONG KONG, August 25, 1998 – Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest air express transportation company, announced today its participation in Arena, the new E-commerce trading community for Hong Kong and southern China. Partnering with CargoNet, FedEx becomes the first air express company to offer its business solutions in this electronic commerce community and private trading platform.
Initially designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), CargoNet's Arena fully integrates trade, transport, finance, government and insurance into a comprehensive electronic commerce solution. FedEx and CargoNet have plans to further develop the Arena into a trading platform that offers even more value-added services in the near future.
"We are excited to become part of this revolutionary trading concept," said William L. Conley, Jr., Vice-President of Logistics and Electronic Commerce for FedEx Asia Pacific. "With Arena, FedEx's express service and advanced technology will be even more convenient and accessible to small and medium-sized enterprises."
FedEx offers a range of express shipping services to customers in CargoNet's electronic trading community. The FedEx shipping process is simple, fast and efficiently integrated into the CargoNet platform. Once the airway bill details are completed in Arena, with a click of a button, the information will be automatically transferred into FedEx interNetShip® to generate a FedEx airway bill.
"Our E-commerce capabilities allow us to substantially enhance our service, efficiency and quality without extra cost to the customer," adds Mr. Conley. "FedEx joining the Arena means that a trader can see their FedEx shipments integrated with the different sectors of his business operation, which helps provide a complete business picture for the customer."
FedEx's participation in Arena confirms FedEx's commitment to providing fast, reliable service to customers around the world. As E-commerce redefines international trading, customers can depend on FedEx for cutting-edge business solutions aimed at simplifying operations.
"We are pleased to team up with FedEx, a company that also believes in advancing technology to the next level," said Ian Craig, Chief Executive of CargoNet. "FedEx has proven to be an industry leader through its pioneering initiatives which offer technologically advanced service to its customers."
