HONG KONG, November 4, 1998 — Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, demonstrates its care for the needy by donating US$100,000 retail value in complimentary shipping to Hong Kong Lifeline Express. FedEx will work with Hong Kong Lifeline Express, bringing supplies from Hong Kong and other countries into China, until May 31, 1999.
The first shipment comprising Lifeline Express literature was delivered by FedEx on October 24 from Hong Kong to Shanghai for distribution to the International Business Leaders Advisory Council.
"FedEx is delighted to have an opportunity to make such a contribution. We are committed to helping Lifeline Express in the delivery of ophthalmic products and other materials to China," said John Quinn, vice president of FedEx's Mid-Pacific region.
Hong Kong Lifeline Express is a three-carriage hospital train which travels throughout China performing surgery for cataract patients residing in remote and poverty-stricken areas. As of July 1998, approximately 2,000 people have regained their eyesight through cataract operations offered by Lifeline Express.

With their help, the delivery time of our resources will be shortened and our funding originally allocated for such purpose can be used to perform additional operations for cataract sufferers, " said Mrs Nellie Fong, Executive Committee Chairman of Lifeline Express.
FedEx has initiated and participated in a number of humanitarian projects in Asia. These include sponsorship of the Heart-to-Heart medical airlift to Vietnam in 1995, Chengdu, China in 1997 and Chongqing, China in 1998; and the earthquake relief in Hebei, China in 1998. And most recently, in collaboration with the US Embassy, FedEx delivered flood relief supplies of China's Yangtze River region.
