DUBAI, U.A.E. - May 7, 2007 - FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX), is sponsoring the Middle East leg of the Harlem Globetrotters 81st Anniversary World Tour.
The team will appear May 7-8 at the Al Jazira Club in Abu Dhabi and May 9-12 at the Al Nasr Sports Club in Dubai.
In their third appearance in the UAE in fifteen years, the renowned Harlem Globetrotters will stage a theatrical display of the basketball skills which have captivated millions of people throughout the world since the team’s creation in 1926.
“As silver sponsors, FedEx is proud to support the Middle East segment of the Harlem Globetrotters World Tour. Speed, teamwork and reliability are a foundation for both FedEx and the Globetrotters,” said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, FedEx.
FedEx Express has a strong track record in supporting sporting events around the globe, including the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One team, the French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros, and the Six Nations Rugby Championship.
“Supporting the Globetrotters was a natural decision for FedEx,” Osman said. “Both brands share similar core values beyond the attributes of speed, teamwork and reliability. FedEx also strongly believes in giving back to the community, and the Harlem Globetrotters have long been committed to the same.”
With a fan base that exceeds 123 million people, the Harlem Globetrotters are the most popular professional entertainment team in the world. Having won more than 21,500 matches, their appeal comes largely from the combination of athleticism, professionalism and theatrical flair on display every time the team plays.
The team of goodwill ambassadors is also known for its involvement in charity projects, supporting many children’s organizations around the world. Benefit shows performed by the team have raised more than US$11 million.
