FedEx and Its Employees donates NT$2,000,000 to Taiwan Red Cross
TAIPEI, Nov. 5, 1999 - Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) announced
today that it will donate a total of NT$2,000,000, including FedEx
Taiwan employees' one day wage donation of NT$825,469 to the Taiwan
Red Cross Organization. This 921 earthquake special relief fund
further underscores FedEx's support for the earthquake victims,
in addition to the other relief services already provided.
Jimmy Chen, Managing Director of FedEx Taiwan said "Our post-quake
reconstruction efforts and assistance are continuous. We hope each
of our donations can help victims through the earthquake. This demonstrates
the social responsibility and compassionate spirit of FedEx and
its employees by assisting people whose lives have been affected
by the earthquake."
FedEx has also been actively offering support and assistance to
the Taiwanese government, which includes providing free transportation
service for critical supplies to affected areas.
In Taiwan, FedEx initially offered its Taichung station for collecting
and transporting relief materials to the rescue centers in Taichung
and Nantou County. During the first two days after the 921 incident,
FedEx provided 12 vehicles to deliver relief supplies from Taichung
to earthquake-affected regions and 14 vehicles for transport from
Taipei to disaster areas. More than 85 FedEx staff also volunteered
to deliver the emergency aid materials during the Mid-Autumn Festival
holidays.
In addition, On September 27,1999, FedEx cooperated with the Hong
Kong Red Cross to transport more than 13,000 kg of relief materials
from Hong Kong to Taiwan including 319 cartons of sleeping bags,
4 cases of generators and 16 cases of flash lights, FedEx also helped
B&Q to transport 100 generators from England to Taiwan. On September
29,1999, FedEx supported World Vision and Heart To Heart Organization
in expeditiously transporting medical injection devices, to disaster
areas in Taiwan.
