Federal Express extends a warm welcome to the Governor of the state of Tennessee as he visits the center
Taipei, December 14, 1998 - Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, recently celebrated the first anniversary of its Transshipment Center located at the Chiang Kai Shek International Airport. The Governor of the state of Tennessee, Governor Don Sundquist, who was visiting Taiwan, was invited to attend a tour of FedEx's Transshipment Center facilities.
The tour was also attended by a number of special guests. These included: Deputy to the Governor Hardy Mays; Chairman William H. Morris of Tennessee Board for Economic Growth; Commissioner Bill Baxter of Department of Economic and Community Development, Tennessee; Director Leigh Wieland of Tennessee International Development Group; Director General Richard Liu of Department of Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance; Director Charles Lin of Civil Aeronautics Administration; and Deputy Director Stephen Young of American institute in Taiwan.
John Quinn, vice president of FedEx, Mid Pacific Region said, "I am very pleased to have Governor Sundquist and the Taiwan authorities joining us to celebrate this milestone. The opening of this center has signified our increasing efficiencies for handling express shipments within Taiwan, and has also helped FedEx to better serve our customers' needs in terms of time-definite and reliable services."
With the strong support of the Taiwan government, FedEx successfully completed the construction of its Transshipment Center last year and started operations in November 1997. After a year in operation, cargo volume has increased significantly, proving FedEx's ability to provide fast and reliable express transportation service to Taiwanese customers and demonstrating FedEx's support of government initiatives to set up the Asia Pacific Regional Operations Center.
The FedEx Transshipment Center has greatly enhanced its services to Taiwan shippers. With the Transshipment Center, FedEx is able to clear 80 percent of inbound shipments within the same day of flight arrival, thus significantly reducing its inbound clearance time by one to two days. Therefore, Taiwan customers can now enjoy faster and more reliable express transportation services.
"Taiwan is a very important market for FedEx and the Transshipment Center will continue to be a very important link for us in the future as we grow with Taiwan. Our goal is to continue to provide Taiwanese customers with time-definite and reliable international express transportation service, as well as to contribute to Taiwan's economic growth and its competitiveness in further attracting foreign investment. FedEx is helping Taiwanese customers to be more competitive in the global market place." continued Quinn.
