Service Update during the 2008 Olympic Games

Tightened security inspections by Shanghai Pudong Customs on exports of chemical, liquid and powered items

(Updated site on 2008-07-28)

In the run-up to and during the Olympic Games, Customs at Shanghai Pudong International Airport have implemented tightened security inspections on inbound and outbound shipments. As a result, exports of chemical, liquid and powdered items are being X-rayed, and some shipments are being opened for inspection.

If you are exporting chemical, liquid, or powdered items, we advise you to do the following to ensure your shipments pass through Customs smoothly:

  • Prepare your shipment and documentation in advance, including a Test Report from an approved test center (Certification for Safe Transport of Chemical Goods issued by the Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry Testing Centre) to confirm that your shipment is not classed as dangerous goods and is suitable for transport by air. And make sure all the information supplied is accurate and valid
  • Ensure that the details on your shipping documents match the items you are shipping; and
  • Ensure that you provide the correct name and a full description of the commodity or item you are shipping in your documents

In addition, please be reminded that FedEx does not accept any kind of dangerous goods for shipment.
