Traffic control measures in Beijing and Olympic co-host cities

Traffic control measures announced by the authorities:

 

Beijing: Beijing has introduced traffic control measures in the run-up to and during the Olympic Games and Paralympics. The measures aim to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, improve air quality and facilitate the smooth operation of public transportation.

The following traffic control measures are in force in Beijing

From July 1 to September 20, 2008

  • Beijing-registered vehicles with “yellow labels” are not allowed to be driven in the city
  • Vehicles registered outside Beijing must apply for a permit to enter the city. In addition, they must also have a “green label”

From July 20 to September 20, 2008

  1. An odd/even license plate control system has been implemented, allowing vehicles to be driven on alternate days
    • From July 20 to August 27: The odd/even license plate control system is in effect
    • From August 28 to September 20: The odd/even license plate control system applies to all areas inside the 5th Ring Road (inclusive), the Airport Expressway, the Badaling Expressway (between Shangqing Bridge and Xiguanhuandao), and the Jingcheng Expressway (between Laiguangying Bridge and Baima South Bridge)
  2. All cargo vehicles are required to comply with the odd/even license plate control system. In addition:
    • Cargo vehicles registered in Beijing are prohibited within the 6th Ring Road (exclusive); and
    • Cargo vehicles registered outside Beijing are prohibited within Beijing

 

Tianjin: According to an official announcement, Tianjin has developed a plan that covers traffic control measures to be implemented to ensure air quality, if necessary. For details, please go to:www.tj.gov.cn/zwgk/wjgz/szfwj/200807/t20080709_65077.htm.

Other Olympic co-host citiesThere are currently no official announcements of traffic control measures being implemented in other co-host cities (including Shanghai, Qingdao and Shenyang).

 

FedEx pickup and delivery services are operating as normal in non-traffic control areas of Beijing and Olympic co-host cities:

Beijing: Pickups and deliveries for FedEx international express and domestic time-definite services continue to operate as normal in non-traffic control areas+.

Co-host cities: At this point, FedEx continues to provide pick-up and delivery services in co-host cites as usual.
