Mexico Shipping Tips for Paperwork and Products



Shipping to Mexico? Depending on the products in your shipment, there may be unique documentation you need complete. To get certain goods into Mexico, you will have to give very specific information for identification, analysis or control purposes.

Mexican law is strict about properly submitting customs documentation.

A unique Commercial Invoice requirement

Mexico requires three to five original signed copies of the Commercial Invoice. You cannot sign one copy and photocopy it. All copies must be signed by hand.

Restricted items

Mexico has restrictions on importing certain items into the country. Some of these items include:

  • Used tires: limited to informal entries through all ports, with formal entry through Ciudad Juárez, Mexicali and Tijuana.
  • Pencils: limited to informal entries through all ports, with formal entry through De Guadalajara and De Tijuana.
  • Explosive
  • Textiles: limited to informal entries through all ports, with formal entry through Cancún, Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, Toluca and Mexico City international airport.
  • Beer: limited to informal entries through all ports, with formal entry through De Cancún, De Mexicali, De Progreso and Mexico City international airport.

To ship these items into Mexico, you will need to complete paperwork specific for each type of item.

Samples

Mexico also has unique rules about samples, all of which must be marked as samples and have an individual value of not more than US$1.
