FedEx History in Canada
In 1987, Federal Express Corporation purchased its 6-year-old Canadian licensee, Cansica Inc. and began operating as Federal Express Canada Ltd. The company's 400 employees distributed Canadian customers' transborder (U.S. - Canada) shipments. FedEx was the first Canadian courier to use dedicated airlift.
One year later, Federal Express acquired EastWest Courier, an Ontario-based company. Yuill Courier in Nova Scotia and Bluejay Courier in New Brunswick were acquired in February of 1989.
In May 1989, the company launched full domestic service. New delivery commitment times and a new price structure were introduced with the launch. In August 1989, Flying Tigers became part of the Federal Express workforce. A domestic Boeing-727 service began in September of 1990.
Today, FedEx operates a domestic air network that includes four Boeing 727s and additional feeder airlift, providing next-day coast-to-coast service. The eight Canadian gateway airports are served by nine international flights: one Fokker F27, three Boeing-727s and five Airbuses, supplemented by a fleet of feeder aircraft.
Following the 1994 global launch of the new FedEx logo, the company name became easily identifiable in both official languages in Canada.
