Printable Version The New Grand Prix Racing Season
The new 2008 Formula One World Championship has just started and FedEx is again a sponsor of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One Team. There are new rules, new host countries, new street circuits and new racing cars - all designed to make this sport even more spectacular.
The 2007 season was one of the closest ever. The Drivers’ Championship was only decided on the very last lap of the last race. Although Lewis Hamilton just missed the title by a single point, it was a remarkable debut by the rookie driver, who led the Championship for most of the season.
The team has a new, youthful driver line-up for 2008, and it is full of promise. Lewis Hamilton is joined by Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen, who impressed fans and fellow drivers with Renault last year in what was also his first season in the Grand Prix racing arena.
Indeed, it was a perfect start for Lewis Hamilton, winning the opening race of the 2008 Formula One World Championship. Hamilton led from pole position in a frenetic race in Melbourne, in which only seven cars completed the race. With Heikki Kovalainen finishing 5th, it was an excellent start for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One Team.
