Printable Version Shipment organised to complement exhibition of the artist’s landscapes in Basel

FedEx Express was recently chosen by the Institut Van Gogh to transport the historic table used during Vincent van Gogh’s stay in Auvers-sur-Oise in France from the hotel l’Auberge Ravoux there to the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel, Switzerland.

The Kunstmuseum in Basel is organising the first exhibition in the world to display a comprehensive collection of van Gogh’s landscape paintings. The seventy canvasses involved - including world-famous works as well as those barely seen previously by the general public - together provide completely new insights into the legendary artist’s complete body of work.

The Auberge Ravoux’s van Gogh table has long been associated with the artist, for, during his short stay in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, (and where he painted more than eighty canvasses, including several key works such as At Eternity’s Gate) he dined at it regularly. In the years following van Gogh’s death, generations of artists, connoisseurs and members of the general public fascinated by the artist’s life and the works he painted in the last year of his life have made pilgrimages to the hotel where he lived. The table will provide an intriguing and thought-provoking complement to the museum’s exhibition, and during the course of its stay in Basel a special “menu van Gogh” will be served from it, inspired by the traditional dishes served to the artist during the time he boarded at the Auberge Ravoux.
