From September to November 2015, more than 3,100 FedEx team members from all over Europe volunteered nearly 10,000 hours to celebrate the 11th annual FedEx Cares giving campaign

FedEx team members in more than 24 European countries (including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK) volunteered to provide their services, and joined a total of 10,000 FedEx team members all around the world who contributed nearly 55,000 hours in support of a wide variety of community-based projects.

This initiative is part of a tradition begun by FedEx in 2005 that has since expanded to nearly 500 global communities in which its team members live and work. The company’s annual giving campaign provides support in the form of money and muscle to hundreds of non-profit organisations.

This year’s FedEx Cares service projects in Europe included:

  • the collection of grocery items for distribution to families in need through local food banks in Austria, Germany, Spain, Poland, and Portugal;
  • the donation of “bags to the future” in the Netherlands for child refugees arriving in Europe, containing toys and other items to help children adapt to their new environment;
  • organising an awareness-raising fun day in Spain, including face painting, crafts and workshops, for children suffering from rare health conditions;
  • running a 'Back to school' national collection of school items (e.g. pens, pencils, rulers) for disadvantaged children in the UK;
  • assisting with the organisation of the annual Zurich Duck Race in Switzerland.

In addition to thousands of volunteer hours donated each year, FedEx and its team members also gave more than $12 million to a variety of local non-profit organisations in 2014.

In the UK FedEx donated essential school equipment to help disadvantaged children and young people across the country in support of children’s charity Action for Children. The charity helps more than 300,000 children, young people, parents and carers through 650 projects across the UK.

As part of the FedEx Cares programme, FedEx team members collected over 2,500 school items, which will be distributed to children and young people at nine Action for Children services across the UK in time for the start of the new school year. FedEx donations included new and unused pens, colouring pencils and notepads, as well as first aid and sewing kits.

“Our team members are passionate about giving back and making a difference in their local communities,” said Neil Gibson, VP Corporate Communications, FedEx Services. “Our responsibilities extend beyond the service we provide to our customers. All over Europe and the world, our team members proudly support causes in their hometowns every day.”
