China Inbound Personal Effects Tariff Increase

The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China has revised and issued the latest versions of the Classification Table of the Incoming Travellers’ Luggage and Personal Postal Articles and the Price list of Incoming Travellers’ Luggage and Personal Postal Articles after Tax, and both will be effective from August 1st, 2007.

The new regulation makes adjustments on the tariff code of some personal postal articles that imported into China and raises the import tax rate on some luxury goods, e.g. the import tax rate on cosmetics will be increased from 20% to 50%, the import tax rate on luxury watches will be increased from 10% to 30% etc. For more information about the detailed changes, please log on www.customs.gov.cn
