Suspension of animal products not intended for human consumption at Heathrow Airport

Effective July 25, the Border Inspection Post (BIP) at Heathrow Airport in the UKwill close. As a result, the airport will no longer accept shipments containing animal products not intended for human consumption (NHC) coming from countries outside the European Union, unless they have been cleared at another BIP.

Shipments arriving on or after July 25 that have not been checked at another BIP will be refused entry, and either returned to their point of origin or destroyed. A list of alternative BIPs can be found at: http://eurlex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/site/en/oj/2007/l_116/l_11620070504en00340058.pdf

The products affected by the closure of the Heathrow BIP are semen, embryos and ova, and animal by-products covered by Regulation 1774/2002 (including intermediate products).
