NEW REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE TRANSPORTATION OF WOOD PACKING MATERIAL

New regulatory requirements governing the transportation of solid wood packaging material across international borders will soon come into effect. The regulations are aimed at preventing the spread of pests.

The regulations, which are based on the United Nation's International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) No. 15, provides that ALL types of wood packaging must be heat treated or fumigated prior to shipping. This includes, but is not limited to; dunnage, crating, pallets, packaging blocks, drums, cases and skids.

The new requirements will be implemented by air express and cargo carriers, including FedEx, and will affect shipments destined to the following countries:

Australia, Brazil, Guatemala, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Switzerland, European Union, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Mexico, Korea, Turkey and USA.

We strongly recommend that you review the attached documentation to ensure that your shipments are compliant. FedEx will not be able to accept any shipment that does not conform to the new regulations.
