Worldwide Customs & Regulatory Updates
August 17, 2005 New Brazil Inbound Shipping Requirement
With effect from 22nd August 2005, all non-document shipments that are being imported into Brazil will require the Tax ID number of the recipient company or individual. Should the recipient be a foreign visitor to Brazil, their passport numbers will act as the Tax ID number for clearance purposes.
The Brazilian Customs authority requires express companies to adhere to this new regulation when clearing their customers' shipments. Non-compliant shipments will be caged and returned of such shipments to their origin will be determined by the Brazilian Customs authority on a case-by-case basis.
* Tax ID numbers are to be indicated on airway bills and commercial invoices. For more information, please contact your local FedEx Customer Service.
