Worldwide Customs & Regulatory Updates
October 29, 2005 Australia Formal Entry Threshold Increase
The Australian Customs Service (ACS) has announced an increase in the formal entry ("high value") threshold from AU$250 to AU$1,000 effective from October 12, 2005. This means that shipments destined to Australia with a customs value of up to AU$1,000 will be cleared without the imposition of duties and taxes (with the exception of tobacco and alcohol).
The changes are part of the Australian Customs Service's Cargo Management Re-engineering (CMR) project, which includes new legislation, new business processes, and a new import reporting system for Australia.
This threshold increase means that shipments destined to Australia may be delivered earlier and free of any duties, GST or processing charges.
