FedEx to support SIWA charity event

November 19, 2002, Seoul - FedEx Express, the world's largest express transportation company, today announced its official support for the 12th annual Fundraising Shoppers' Day Bazaar, a major volunteer event organized by the Seoul International Women's Association (SIWA).

FedEx is one of 14 official sponsors and will donate USD 4,500 to the bazaar as funding for food and heating for many people who are in need including children and babies with mental illnesses.

Proceeds are delivered to charities selected each year by SIWA's Welfare Committee. To date, donations have gone to over 23 projects, including the Nasaro Home for Wayward Boys, the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center, and the Pearl S. Buck Foundation.

"Through this bazaar, we want to give hope to the homeless and hungry children," said Vida Senkus, SIWA Bazaar Chairperson 2002.

"The event also provides an opportunity to promote social, cultural, welfare and community interests among women of different nationalities living in Seoul," she said.

In announcing the FedEx sponsorship, Charles Arena, Managing Director FedEx Express, said: "FedEx has long standing tradition of support and contribute to the global community it serves. FedEx has been supporting various volunteer activities in education, the arts, environment, medical charity services, and relief supplies since its beginning in the early 1970's." Mr. Arena also added, "As an example of FedEx's tradition both local and foreign employees in Korea raised USD1,000 for Seongbuk Orphanage in Seoul in December 2001."

SIWA was founded in 1956 as a nonprofit volunteer organization and is the largest international women's organization in Korea. It includes representatives from 53 countries living in Seoul. Over the past 11 years, SIWA has been holding annual bazaar around the end of the annual year to promote cultural, welfare and community interests.

The 12th annual SIWA Fundraising Shoppers' Day Bazaar will be held at the new Grand Hilton Seoul Convention Center, Hongeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, from 11:30am to 3:30pm on November 20, 2002 with Some 300 volunteers from 48 countries.
