In general, there
are several types of textiles shipment to the U.S.:
- Mutilated Samples
- Marked Samples
- Quota Shipment
- Tailored Garments
Mutilated
Samples
These are samples of garment, fabrics, fabric swatches or other textile
items with no commercial value and are not to be worn or resold. Shipment
with value exceeding US$2,000 is subject to import duties.
The samples must be properly stamped on the outside, or mutilated
on the main body as per attached U.S. Customs guidelines.
Marked
Samples
These are samples of garment, fabrics, fabric swatches or other
textile items with value up to US$ 800 and not for resale. Also
known as commercial samples, these are commonly shipped for modeling
or photographing purposes.
The samples must be properly marked or labeled with 'SAMPLE' marking
as per attached US Customs guidelines.
Quota
Shipments
Also known as Commercial shipment, these are garment, fabric or
other textile items that are subject to Quota control and are intended
for resale. There is no value limitation and shipment is subject
to import duties.
Tailored
Garments
Also known as made-to-measure garments, these are shipped either
to individual buyer or through US buying agents. Basically there
are 2 types:
- 1. Suits
This is matching suits compose of a jacket with trousers or skirt
made from same fabric. Suits made from certain fabric materials
are subject to Window Quota control as operated by the Trade and Industry Department.
2. Separates
These are tailored garments made from different fabric materials.
These are not subject to any quota control.
