Importing Dutiable Commodities to Hong Kong
According to the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance (CAP.109) in Hong Kong, certain kinds of wine, liquor, cigarettes and cigars are subject to duty when they are imported to Hong Kong. To facilitate customs clearance and prevent delays, it is important that a detailed description of dutiable items is provided on the commercial invoice, including, without limitation, the following information -
For wine or liquor:
- Full description of wine / liquor e.g. Henry VSOP Brandy, Godiva 15 years old single malt Scotch Whisky
- Brand name
- Alcoholic strength
- Country of origin
- Vintage (manufacturing year of the wine)
- Number of mls (millilitres) per bottle / can
- Standard packing size per carton
- Type of packing
For cigarettes or cigars:
- Full description of cigarettes / cigars
- Brand name
- Country of origin
- Number of sticks per packet
- Length per stick (in mm) (applicable for cigarettes)
- Mille per case (applicable for cigarettes)
- Net weight per stick (gm) (applicable for cigars)
- Type of packing (pack / box)
