Printable Version Student Competition encourages development of business skills
FedEx, together with Young Enterprise Sweden has co-sponsored with the JA-YE (Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise) 2008 Europe Company of the Year Competition held in Stockholm. The competition encourages students to develop the business and teamwork skills required to start and run profitable firms and also reinforces the social, ethical, and environmental responsibilities of successful companies.
Participant teams, who have all won national student company competitions, were required to display their product and to make a four-minute stage presentation in support of a ten-page business plan that must include product design and development, a marketing plan, pricing and sales strategies, and stock and sales forecasts and results. The teams were interviewed and judged by a panel of business people and the student company that was considered to have the most comprehensive understanding of global trade was awarded the 2008 FedEx Global Impact Award in recognition of the international potential of their company and how successfully the environmental impact of its growth has been addressed.
FedEx has also sponsored the attendance in Stockholm of thirty JA student ambassadors from the US, Canada and Latin America to enable them to gain the first-hand knowledge and experience necessary to initiate competitions in their respective regions. Following the planned expansion into the Asia-Pacific region, Junior Achievement will organize the first Global Student Company of the Year Competition in 2011, hosting students from all around the world.
FedEx consistently supports the development of professional business skills through mentoring and other training support skills provided by volunteer current and former FedEx staff. For more information on the Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise Europe Company of the Year Competition click here.
