Printable Version FedEx’s pursuit of business quality and socially responsible policies cited in two new studies
Two recent publications pay tribute to our commitment to ethical employment and social responsibility policies and practice.A comparative study carried out by The Reputation Institute and the Boston College Centre for Corporate Citizenship places FedEx in position thirteen on a list of fifty top companies. We achieved a rating of 74.65 on the Institute’s Corporate Social Responsibility Index (CSRI), which surveys consumer opinions drawn from more than two hundred companies.
Respondents to the Institute’s 2008 Global Pulse Study were asked to evaluate companies’ social responsibility efforts in the areas of ethics, involvement in the community, environmental efforts and how they treat their workforce. The Reputation Institute says that the analysis of its research show that social programmes, management practices and employee relations account for more than forty percent of a company’s overall reputation.
A newly published book by Tim Sanders entitled “Saving the World at Work - What Companies and Individuals Can Do to Go Beyond Making a Profit to Making a Difference” also recognises the work we do in the communities we serve. The author describes us as a “quality-centred” company, and notes that when we won the first Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for service in 1990 this was due in large part to our founder and CEO Fred Smith’s commitment to cutting-edge information technology in the pursuit of reliability.
Sanders also remarks on the significant relationship between our work with Safe Kids Worldwide, the launch of our Walk This Way programme and our approach to best business practice, all of which is reflected in one of our long-standing corporate credos, “Safety Above All.“
FedEx is honoured to be recognised for continuing commitment to the achievement of high standards of business ethics and efficiency, caring corporate citizenship and social responsibility. We pursue these goals through a variety of initiatives such as disaster relief support, the use of alternative and renewable energy sources, our employee recognition programmes, diversity initiatives and the services we and our employees provide to our local communities.
