FedEx was the Official Logistics Partner at the 13th Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, India's premier fashion trade event held in New Delhi. India Fashion Week event attracting nearly 200 designers and 160 international buyer houses was held between March 18-23, 2009.

In addition, FedEx also sponsored the runway show of designer Rajesh Pratap Singh on March 19, 2009, whose unique signature style combines modern with traditional design aesthetics, as part of the company’s commitment to facilitating the growth of the global fashion industry. FedEx also co-hosted the International Buyers & Media brunch with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) President, Mr Sunil Sethi on March 19, 2009.

The apparel and textile industries are quickly growing and evolving, with India at the center of the evolution.  According to the India Brand Equity Association, the industry is the second-largest employer in India, employing more than 35 million people and the industry accounts for 4% of the nation’s GDP.

Through its deep knowledge of the industry, FedEx helps apparel customers realize competitive advantages within their supply chain that can cut days and even weeks off distribution cycles and increase profits.  FedEx provides time-definitive deliveries for special garments that need to reach consumers or retailers immediately and provides assistance with customs clearance.  FedEx also produces packaging specifically for the textile industry to help ensure product arrives safely.

The FedEx Express sponsorship of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is just another example of the company’s commitment to the industry.  In January 2009, FedEx sponsored Fashion Rio and Fashion Business in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.  FedEx showcased the collections of Singaporean designer Ashley Isham, Rajesh Pratap Singh from India, and Brazil’s Fabíola Molina at a special runway show.

“FedEx has been kind enough to support me in my first presentation of my collection in the Latin American market at Rio Fashion Week,” said designer Rajesh Pratap Singh. “The success that followed this show has enabled us to work with a showroom in Sao Paulo and Rio for the upcoming summer and my products will be across some selective stores in Latin America before the end of the year. Brazil is expected to be the third fastest growing economy this year after China and India and this is a significant development for me, thanks to FedEx.”

FedEx has an unparalleled global network to help garments designed and manufactured in India reach more than 220 countries and territories within one to three business days.  With more than 16 customs clearance gateways in India alone – the most of any express delivery company – enabling FedEx to assist with exporting and customs clearance for the industry.
