FedEx was recently appointed by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and the China Wildlife Conservation Association to organise the transportation of two rare giant pandas from the Bifengxia Panda Base in Chengdu to Edinburgh Zoo.
The two eight-year old animals, Tian Tian (Sweetie) and Yang Guang (Sunshine), were transported in a specially chartered Boeing 777F known as the “FedEx Panda Express”. All logistical services for the non-stop flight were donated by FedEx, including the provision of an expert team of pilots to ensure the rare animals’ safety. The two pandas were accompanied by a veterinarian and two animal handlers who looked after the animals’ needs during the entire journey. To see the final leg of the pandas’ journey click here.
FedEx has extensive experience of transporting rare animals, ranging from white rhinos and penguins to polar bears, white tigers, elephants, mountain lions, gorillas, eagles - and even a 13-foot tiger shark used in filming the movie “Jaws”.
Other unusual international cargo transported by FedEx include a windmill from Denmark, the Ryder Cup, and a vintage Jaguar Le Mans car worth over £1 million.
Whatever you ship, you can count on FedEx to deliver on time and safely.
